Hillman Imp cars

At the time of its launch, the Hillman Imp was regarded as a likeable addition to the Mini-car market, possessing some admirable qualities, such as excellent handling and a willing engine. However, its rear-engined layout (which many rivals later turned away from, thanks to the success of the BMC Mini and 1100) and rapidly-gained reputation for mechanical fragility meant that sales never amounted to more than a third of what was expected by the Rootes Group management.
